What incredible imagery. It's a poem that makes one think. I believe you've covered  the entire spectrum of a life. The dregs of youth, to drink before I rise. This is stunning because 'before I rise' can be thought of in many different ways, after awaking, after being jilted, after confusion, after misunderstanding, etc. It is simply loaded with imagery that can be taken different ways. This is because the opening sets the reader on a trek that is of their own interpretation. This is a poem where the reader doesn't need to concern themselves with what the poet intended because it almost automatically puts the reader in the imagery. Uncanny but totally surreal to what a pleasant experience to be captured that way! KUDOS!!!!

There is something so special about this poem. I love the picture it paints of the times. Sad though. 🌹

Absolutely superb my dear friend. Truly wonderful work. And yes there comes a time in old age when it is too late for more than dreams.
