Wow
I reread this segment of that story, and my eyes go 'wet' again. It's taken me at least ten minutes to get myself back under control.
Lisa (aka 'Heather' in the story) is still the love of my life. I still fiercely miss my first wife, but she had once told me if she should pass, she wanted me to find someone else. I told her that would be impossible... but then again, my life has been filled with miracles.
I know I've said this here before, but I've been shot twice (once in the leg with a .22 revolver and in the abdomen with a shotgun that had me in the hospital for nine days by a man who was having a mental break down) and stabbed in the chest, an act that could have been fatal, but was stopped by a 'voice' that told me to move my one inch thick pocket note pad from my back pocket to my left breast pocket just five seconds before he stabbed me... absolute proof to me that there is a God.
We spend at least an hour a day talking... usually out back, under the trees while the dogs play, and at least 30 minutes every night, sitting up in bed, discussing the day now behind us, and about the day coming up. These talks are always open, where we can talk about anything without arguing. The 'rules' we made allow us to say what needs to be said, and it keeps us happy and deeply in love.
Yes... Judy was the love of my life... but she was in pain and hurting and finally passed... but I firmly believe that she asked someone 'up there' to give me someone to care for me... and then from our long ago past, Lisa and I made contact when she called me to say she was sorry to hear about Judy passing. One thing led to another, and we finally had a 'date' and the magic started again. 15 days from today will be our sixth anniversary. Our love still burns brightly, and I can't imagine my life without her.
