This little town has a problem that is sweeping not only the nation, but the world. Drug use is destroying our nation. If I walk from our house to the closest local store, it is far too common to see syringes littering the sidewalks, and increasingly more often, you can see people 'shooting up' in broad daylight. It is not uncommon to hear of people getting robbed of their wallets. When I walk to the store, I never carry cash and only have the credit card I intend to use in my pocket. If you receive my card, it takes but one call to render it useless.
I have friends back in my home county of Montcalm in west central Michigan who are telling me they are having the very same problems... drugs EVERYWHERE!
It is also precisely why we have four big dogs. Nobody in their right mind is going to wander in with the great possibility of leaving running with only one arm. Everybody in our neighborhood knows we have these dogs, a natural deterrent if there ever was one.
We want to live happily, safely, and calmly. If it takes four BIG dogs to do it, I'm on it.

There are compensations, though - to that southern way of doing things. A cordial greeting -- "how y'all doin'? -- for instance. Seems your roots are definitely northern. Thank you for this first post of the morning - got me smiling and it's not even time to get up yet...
