Short, sharp writing is the way.

In fact, 'Story Empire,' a site operated by a publisher friend of mine, has several helpful links to using better words for common things....

Thank you, Pat. Our own Ana Lee Jobrail has a birthday today.

As I said in the main part of my post, writing these romance stories is making me a better writer because I have to learn long lines of conversation, avoiding the typical 'she said/he said' stuff to keep my reader from falling asleep, or worse, not finishing the story.

Once again, I see these dialog bits as scenes in a movie. The couple is a bit more seasoned than the typical boy meets girl pairing. Folks with some salt-rubbed wounds and time to heal. I hope the birthday celebration brings joy to everyone.
