Kabu....
I always volunteered to do the ironing when I was a teen. I liked that much better than the wringer washing machine or hanging out the clothes on the line, etc. Plus I could set up the ironing board right next to our big Philco radio and listen to all the soap-operas.

It does amaze me how laundry was completed back in the day. I am amazed and thankful for home washers and dryers and not have to go to the laundromat.

Good Evening
I'm not sure how your Mom ever did all that work. I would have been exhausted. I have to remember to be thankful for how easy I have it when I do my chores around the house. The dishwasher alone is such a time-saver.

It's remarkable how far society has come, and yet we often forget. All the household dangers that many of us have overcome due to the times we grew up in. And the tedious but important things like laundry. My grandmother had an old-fashioned wringer washing machine. She washed every day and hung the clothes out to dry on the line.

Oh, geez. I remember those days of ironing. I used to iron my work blouses and John's dress blues when he was in the Navy. I still own an iron, but rarely do I use it, and thank goodness for modern washers and dryers.

All your mother's routine sounds very familiar. That's how it was with us when I was a kid, and I remember helping out when I got tall enough to reach the clothesline so I could pin things to it for drying. I complained about it then, but now I'm grateful. Gave me a basis for understanding so many things people have to deal with in this world.
