Re: BearcatMike
One of the worst things I saw when very young. A gypsy boy who I suspect did not know really what school was , he just sat bewildered and the teacher fetched the old headmistress. She just thumped him on the back and he slid down onto the ground.
I really hated her from that day.

Re: Ciel
My Dad told me once his brother was caned and his Dad threatened to give the teacher a good hiding if he did it again. He never touched any of them after that.🦋

Re: Sherri
Yes he used the edge of the ruler it would not have been so bad if it had been the flat. Of course once folk used the carbide to light the way on cycles. No batteries. 🦋

It was pretty rough at my little school with its handful of no more than 15 students.

Children are so often the victims of adults whose minds and behaviors are distorted by prejudices and inflexible beliefs.

What an interesting title. It changes the way you look at the adjustments children make from home to school. It also brings into view the things you share with your parents and the things you don't share. In the public school systems I came up through. All we had was the paddle. You only got that if you went to the principal's office. I have often heard about the ruler from those who attended catholic schools.

I'm sorry you endured such pain as a child. I'm familiar with carbide. John and I both worked with the tungsten carbide chemical compound when we were employed at Kennametal several years ago. As for the ruler, John had a teacher who used a ruler to smack the kids when he attended grade school. Those suckers hurt.
