Similar feelings and knowledge as you from all those years of nursing...and sometimes it wasn't a patient who was freaked out. Staff can reach their limit as well.

Re: Pat
Thank you. I often tell people the reason I can write the way I do is because of the things that happened to me during my life. From living on the farm and working with all of the cows, I learned to treat animals properly, and they will do as you ask. If you start screaming at a cow, you are making a problem for both of you.
The things I saw as a medic taught me a ton of stuff. I can't even begin to tell you about some of the scenes I was at, but I use the emotions I felt when those things happened. Because I was there, I understand the adrenaline that surges through your body.
The time I spent working in the psych ward of a major prison with inmates who usually had committed almost unspeakable crimes was invaluable. It was dangerous, and many times I will admit to being scared... but the things I saw and learned from men who had killed someone. They explained the "thrill" they felt when they did it. They also told me why they did certain crimes... and while it was almost nauseating sometimes, I listened and learned.
A lot of my life was under dangerous conditions. As a medic, I was expected to always keep my cool and treat the people who had become my patients. I saw a lot, but I learned a lot.
LOL... I could go on and on... but I was able to keep myself centered because I had a wonderful wife... twice. I am so blessed.

Great advice from your doggie! And I believe you're absolutely right - we don't have a clue what we'd do in a terrifying situation until we're actually in it. Glad you're out of the risky business and can enjoy your retirement with your beautiful wife.
