Good Morning
FSI, this is a lot of drama for one day at the car wash. I know things can get out of hand quickly, and then add the fact that your Dad did not feel well, and I can understand the end result. I really enjoyed reading this post. Thanks for sharing a day at the car wash. I hope your Dad is feeling better.

Unless there are more underlying reasons for her to quit, I'd say Lois does not have a hard shell. Maybe it will blow over in a few days once everyone has calmed down.

Re: Amanda
What it boils down to is that Dad was sick. And when you're sick, nothing grates more than being made fun of for it. Add in the stress of an argument with Roy and then trying to gather information from Lois — only for her to start mocking his voice again — and it was inevitable Dad was going to lose his temper. Honestly, if he had been feeling well, I think we’d be talking about a very different outcome — one that ended with the situation being diffused.
Should Dad have handled it differently? Absolutely, and he’s said as much himself. But really, I think all three could have acted better. Dad shouldn’t have blasted either of them. With Lois, he should have calmly shut things down earlier in the day when the teasing started. Roy shouldn’t have treated the car wash like a personal dumping ground or exploded the way he did. And Lois definitely shouldn’t have kept mocking Dad or escalated the situation further.
Roy has both my personal number and the car wash cellphone. I wish he had called me instead — I feel like, just like a well Dad would have, I could’ve diffused it before it blew up.

It sounds like Dad has had “up to here,” as my mom would say. Working sick is hard and then having people irritate you is a bad combination. Hopefully things will settle down, Dad will feel better and everything will be back to normal.

If this is a first offense, why not cut her some slack?

Wow, that was some serious drama. Looks like Dad could use a human resources expert. Dealing with different personalities can indeed be challenging. Good people are hard to find. People who care about the work and the company.
