Good Morning
Kabu, I loved this story about the farm. Thanks for sharing it. My Grandma was always in charge of the chickens on the farm. I always thought my Grandpa should do it, but that's not how it was.

It’s interesting reading about life on the farm. I’ve never seen a chicken egg hatch.

My mother has told me horror stories about her holding the chicken while her grandfather cut off its head. She said the chickens would run around for a bit before collapsing. The image was too much for her to have an appetite, but she had to eat the chicken or go to bed hungry. As for the price of eggs, I saw a sale on eggs yesterday on a large dozen for $3.99. They are regularly $4.99. The organic eggs are $8.99.

I love that story. It is funny how we remember certain things. And I learned about different chicken breeds. My Mother only shared how they used to kill chickens by ringing their necks. I definitely wouldn't want to be a feisty rooster.

Kabu.....
.....Back when the West was Won and cowpunchers drove the steers to market and gold miners only thought about finding the yellow stuff, and Indians fought with bows and arrows, eggs were hard to come by and their price was $$$$ really high.....a dollar for an egg and there weren't very many to be had.

That's how my mom did her chickens. We had only half a dozen or so, small pen next to the garage, but they laid plenty of eggs. Your mom's response to aggressive roosters was just like my mom's. We had the Rhode Island Red variety.
