When Fang and I were married he belonged to a lodge that held dances every Saturday night, and we waltzed, did the jitterbug, and of course there were the polka tunes. Lot of folks around here came from the countries where the polka is a favorite. And back home, before I moved away from the far west, we had barn dances and these others, too. Lots of down-home folks with squeezeboxes & fiddles in those days.

Fun! The barn dances you are speaking of remind me of the movie Footloose where the kids were forced to find a location for their dance after it was forbidden at their school. The popular dance scenes were filmed in a barn.

Re: Kabu.....
That sounds wonderful music to dance to. We had a German band locally and they had accordion, fiddle harmonica and drums. Great music and all of them farmers.

Kabu.....
.....with my Mom's family being Czech, the dances were Polkas. My Grandpa played the accordion, my uncle the fiddle and another uncle the harmonica. Their Saturday night dances were something else.

My dancing days were in an entirely different world.

Those were the days. My high school had mixers, which are dances. Freak dancing was all the rage then. I'll leave it at that.
