Congrats, belated, on getting your degree. Your post today reminds me of the time I worked in the Housing office on the SIUE campus. A student named Joe, from New Jersey I believe, called us from the airport in St. Louis to come and pick him up - it was not something we usually did, but he had made arrangements with the administration. Turns out Joe was wheelchair-bound. He had CP but had not shared that info with us. We had assigned him to a 2nd floor apartment with roommates, and there was no elevator. Of course we re-assigned him to a ground floor space. This was in the '60s, before the govt had issued mandatory access requirements for all public buildings. Joe took on the administration to get automatic doors installed in classroom buildings, the library and others, and when he graduated, a few years later, got a job teaching/supervising ADA
services at a college in Texas. He had Thanksgiving dinner at my house once, and my two sons had to carry him, chair and all, up the front steps. Amazing guy. Thank you for jogging my memory.
