With different historic events during my lifetime (i.e. 9/11, COVID), I have wondered if something can happen again...

I Remember, I Remember....

.....the day it was announced that the war was over.  I know it was not as bad for us as it was for you over there....but we lost a whole lot of young fellows, even ones I knew, and some family members in the fighting.

I don't remember VE Day, but I remember ration books, and the newsreels about the blitz and how London was under constant bombardment. My father was a gunnery expert and served on the Saratoga, an aircraft carrier, until he was called to a special operation to take
apart and reverse engineer the V1 and V2 rockets after the allies captured the factory in Dresden. I learned about this mission only after I sent for his service record about ten years ago when I was writing "Bloody Hell and A Slice of Pie," a fictionalized version of incidents in mother's life after dad left the family.  I'm so happy you came through it and the UK is a friend to the USA these days.

of course I don't remember

I was born in April '45 but I remember what Mother told me. I remember the ration cards that sat as a reminder in a drawer for years. I remember the huge numbers marching on Anzac day for many years. Just ask people in Gaza and in the Ukraine if they are feeling at peace! oh and all the sunken ships carrying cargo through to the Suez canal or back. There is always someone some where having terrible lives.
