One time, my dad was asleep at the car wash office. He does not want customers to see him sleeping. We had a customer coming over, and I went "Dad, Dad," which did not work. I went to shaking. He jumped high.

....That's quite a little story. We used to have a neighbor, some years back, Oleda the wife, used to stab her husband with a pairing knife in non-lethal places when she wanted to get his attention. She did it once too often and we never saw him again.

Well, whacking one with a shovel seems like a weird technique for waking someone up. Although I do have one in mind who could do with a solid whack on the back of the head. It might even start the gears in his head to working a bit. Well, that's a story for another day. I hope the butler succeeds in avoiding the tender mercies of the housekeeper.
