Good morning
Our Blue Jays went away a few weeks ago, but in their place are some stunning yellow Finches. Now that you've explained their hiding places, perhaps they are off feasting elsewhere. We also have our regular Cardinal families, Magpies, Sparrows, Starlings, Doves, and Pigeons. Birds and squirrels are smart that way. I feed my fur babies and feathered friends nuts and seeds every day along with marshmallows, hot pepper suets, and other treats. Stay cool, and have a great day.

I didn't know about the 2,000 food hiding places a blue jay can have. It reminds me of my paternal grandmother, who seemed to have thousands of places for hiding cash.

I thought of you early this morning when I stepped out onto the porch
to see how hot & muggy it was. There, in the middle of the street was a big old hawk, the kind that can swoop down and pick up a squirrel. It acted like it was the owner of the street, looking imperiously around at its dominion. A few seconds later a robin landed about six feet from the predator, and chirped as it walked around it in a cautious half-circle. I was afraid I was about to witness a murder, but the robin didn't seem to be worried. For a moment I thought the big one must have been injured, but then a jeep came driving up the street and the two birds took flight and disappeared behind the trees.
