Well, Helen. you were lucky every time I have replaced a carpet the underlay has
simply curled up and died. I think a foam-type plastic was used and it was as black
as sin and as dusty as the devil. I wondered what was falling down into the stair
cupboard. Of course in the old Cotswold houses were flagstones as they were called.
My old Great Aunt never bothered to cover them. Well being in the coal trade I
suppose it would have been pointless.
