That's what we call "the good old days".  They look pristine on Cristmas Cards, but they sting the toes and bite the nose when out in the weather for too long.

wwhat would youngsters say if they were asked to do this these days. yet, I am sure you never thought it was cruel or asking too much of a Lad.

This is amazing. I can see the scene unfold in front of my eyes.

Such everyday miseries accepted as part of life, not to be forgotten.   Brilliant.

What a cold and difficult time and for a boy to have to suffer working like that, it must have been dreadful. There are some lovely lines in your poem that are very touching. Brill.
