Yes my mother came from a middle class family, but widowed by war and too many children, no easy escape.

I try to hold the phone as far away as I can. I can hardly understand the person when they speak it sounds so quiet.

I don't believe having automated systems to answer phones is an
improvement. I don't like "push 1 if... push 2 if... " They still have to have real people as backup, to confirm and complete - they should save us the aggravation.

I love your thoughts of Mother and yourself, probably both undernourished as so many children were.That is the England I used to go searching for. No not to find poverty but the clean fresh water, the lush over growth and the tranquility before a World went mad. Not once, but twice, and continues to do so to this day.
