For some reason, I didn't see this comment right away, Pat, but know that we send our love, prayers, and thoughts to you and your family.
I had a philosophy course in college at the University of Michigan that included a lot of material by Gibran. He influenced a lot of my thoughts on grief and love.
Should you need to talk, drop me an email. bmoc66@gmail.com

Got word on Friday morning that my youngest son (age 50) passed
away in Seattle. Two of my older sons stopped by "for coffee" and shared the awful news with me, and we sat together for awhile. If you're familiar with the poet Khalil Gibran, perhaps his line will be familiar: "Joy and sorrow are brothers. When one is sitting at your table, the other is sleeping in your bed." I posted on FB that I hope my children, and all who mourn, can sit with joy at the table today and let sorrow sleep. Peace.

Re: I like the idea of making every day a celebration.
Thank you. I think the fact that we both worked in the ER for years taught us that life is not guaranteed.
My wife died slowly. Her husband died tragically and quickly. We've seen it happen before.
We spend all our day together and we talk about stuff all day. Nothing is off the table. We want to live our lives at 500 degrees until the wicks are gone. As long as we are together, we will burn bright.
