Good Afternoon

Kabu, I love reading about your Great Grandmother Susan.  She sounds like an awesome lady.  I imagine if she were here now she would have all kinds of stories to tell us.

She sounds like someone I would love to know! I think maybe some of her is still quite alive in her great grandaughter Kabu.

Good afternoon

What an intriguing story this is. Your grandparents had a wonderful marriage by the way that he took care of and protected her. That is so sad that her sister concluded that she was dead simply because of travel, but that is how it was back in that time. Thank you for sharing this part of her life.

I love it, it is very much how the Jelinek's came to America.  My mother was a Jelinek, they were from Czechoslovakia which at their time was called Bohemia.

I feel empathy for those who get seasick. I enjoy that rocking motion

and love getting on a boat, but Grandmother Susan had a miserable time of it. I'm sure the morning sickness didn't help. Don't blame her for not wanting to get back on the boat - I'm guessing Grandfather had to go back to get their belongings before the ship embarked on the next step of its journey.
