Re: Annicita
When I was a boy I had a goose it followed me everywhere. I reared it from a young gosling and they tend to believe the object that feeds them is Mother.

Re: FS
I don't know if it is the same in your Home town but it does appear that more than ever folk are walking about with dogs. I think it probably is to stave off boredom due to the epidemic.

Good morning
A pet is never a good gift for a child who will easily forget about its care after the newness wears off. A child has a way of moving on to the next greatest thing, often leaving the pet in the parent's care.

Giving a pet as a gift seems like it will often end up as a disaster. It's sad how many pets end up in shelters or abandoned that were gifts.

Re Pat
Quite right, Pat, it is usually the parents who have to keep reminding a child of the responsibility. I did go back in my mind to try to find the way I thought as I bunged a bit of food into a wild rabbit's cage, we caught it when it was a baby. One day the cage door was open and Bunny had scarpered. I think my Dad probably let it go free.

Re: Kabu
Yes, Helen, I am as guilty as the rest. Sadly in our days, we did not have much information about treating different pets. I remember a Magpie it was great fun for a while but it grew ill I did not realize feeding it on milksops was not a good diet for a wild bird. Now I feel a little bit sad telling you this. Just a gesture be happy.

i always made the pet a family pet. Kids can be neglectful if something more interesting is happening. They aren't trying to be cruel. They just aren't small adults. Thank you for the Pay Pal!!!!

Parents think giving a child a pet will teach responsibility, but in my
experience, kids don't just naturally fall into the caretaker/trainer role - the parents have double duty, spending their time making sure the kids take care of feeding, cleanup and training. I can sympathize with the mom & dad in your poem who took the bunny to a rescue center...
