Re: Good Morning Goldiec

Yes one always has to be wary, although one does not see many selling oddments here. Perhaps they get Social Security. The lowest one can get so a gipsy told me is a Hedge Poker. Presumably one without even a tent.

Re: Good Morning Sassy

Sassy, some of the old ones were really tanned by the weather and those who made flowers from presumably willow and sold pegs were really tough to deal with. We bought pegs from them as some folk preferred that kind. One had to watch out as they tried to slip smaller strips in with the longer ones. I had to keep count. Pathetic really  we paid fourpence halfpenny a dozen and they were sold for sixpence a dozen.

Re: FS

I don't think they were too bothered the Council did house several families and some made a good living as scrap metal became more valuable.

Re:PAT

Thank you Pat. Once there was an encampment quite near to us. I always remember a tall gipsy woman carrying a tall lad around, I don't know what he suffered from but evidently, he could not walk. Also, I saw another country lad he used to ride on a plank fixed to pram wheels.

What an intereting exchange with the Gypsy Lady. Very fascinating.

Good morning

This was such an enjoyable tale to read. I love stories about Gypsies. They are often persecuted and subject to discrimination, so welcoming her into your home says a lot about your wonderful character. I have an 8th cousin who hails from Romania, so maybe this is why I am so intrigued by them. He was a map maker who became the first property owner in Maryland.

Good Morning

C_C_T, I loved this.  Thank you for sharing it.  It made me smile this morning.  I must say beware of gypsies bringing fine lace down the lane.  It might be more than what it appears to be.  A pretty face has taken many men quite by surprise.  A Grandma is very knowledgeable guiding her child along the way.
