I know one Chap he was complaining when he received his retirement pension his Social security pension ceased.

Social Security isn't supposed to be the whole income - but only about
40% of the amount the retiree earned on the job. The idea was to keep those who didn't put savings away would not have to be on welfare. As for the kid flipping burgers, most high schoolers are working 20 hours a week or less for minimum wage and no tips, so the $15 and up wages are more likely to be stuff reporters talk about, rather than money the kid can contribute to the family.
