Your mother got the long end of the deal. It pays to be disorganized.

Good Morning
Kabu, thanks for sharing such a great post. Your Mom sounds like a real gem! I'm wondering what month she was born in? That may have played a part in the way she was. God Bless her for taking charge of what she wanted.

Good morning
That's a real shame that you didn't get to know them. They were probably filled with many stories that would have been interesting and educational. People did die young back in those times compared with today. Hard work probably did factor in quite a bit, along with a lack of medical treatments. I knew my maternal grandparents. At one time we had six generations living from that side. We managed to get a picture of five generations, but not the six. I never knew my paternal grandparents. I wish that I had though. They too like yours had a working farm. Unfortunately, it burned to the ground, taking both their lives on a cold winter's day in January of 1968.

I don't remember my grandmothers. I never met them. My older cousin remembered my maternal.

I would love to sit and share a cup of coffee with you and your mother.
I can imagine the stories coming too fast to get them all written down...

Kabu - I love these stories of your family.
Your mom was a sharp cookie, as they say. She knew how to make the most out of any situation, I think. Good for her.

Oh yes! Sibling rivalry...I had more than enough experience with it.
