I am hopeless about cars.

** This is an old story but some here may not have read it.

Years ago the Father of my boys (now 50 and 52) and myself used to have a bread run. It was a big bread run in a big town and the company we were working for happened to be new to town and they were after the lion's share of the sales. private enterprise war between two locally owned companies!!

We used to deliver bread to both households and to small shops and mini dinner rolls to a club.

We were getting so big we had to spit the run into two. I got a boarder so that she could pay a bit of rent and also get my little boys off to school. I started work at 6.30 am.

Husband had the biggest run and I had a small Van and a smaller run which just kept getting bigger and bigger.

I am hopeless about what goes under the Bonnet (Hood).Sure I can clean a spark plug fill the radiator with water, even change a fan belt...see how old I am and how far back this story goes!!

I could also change a tire!! I had to drive down some little back lanes and into strange yards sort of semi-rural and was so often getting a flat tire from a nail or something. My tires had tubes in them.

I had a kit with me that the fluid whatever it was would blow the tire up enough for me to limp to the garage and they would fix everything for me so I could finish my run.

This one day I had the tube but I needed extra tools so I rang a door bell. A man answered and I asked for a pair of scissors and a nail file, I have a flat tire I need to fix.

The man looked at me as though I was from Mars but he brought me my tools saying, " Lady I have to come watch this. Any woman who can fix a tire with a nail file and scissors; I have to see this."

So, I cut the top of my container of Goo with the scissors and filed around the cut top as my tires were tiny and the plug site to the tube was very small. Then I attached my container to the tube, gave a good squeeze and my car was ready to go. I thanked the man as I handed him back his "tools" and we limped our way to the garage once again.

It was a large town, but the husband heard the story a few days later, from some one he knew.

I always get a little nervous when something is up with my vehicles. The two big questions that come into my mind are, "How much?" and, "How long?"

Well as long as you are OK. The last battery I bought was guaranteed for life and then when I asked to have it checked the garage put a new one on. I was not pleased.

Good Afternoon

Kabu, I'm so thankful you were able to get your car running and go into town.  Fortunately, you were able to get your mail and groceries.  Life is good!

Good for you! Sometimes they just need a little nudge to remember they are batteries.

I am very proud of you.  I wish I was still that brave.  I have things I need to do quickly now because I have put it off so long and I just don't want to.  It makes life a bit miserable to keep putting things off.

Kabu

Oh, what a horror! I am sorry that happened to you. These batteries on cars can go out at the worst of times. Not like there is ever a good time for that to happen. I'm proud of you because that is a stress no one needs and you handled it superbly. Now decompress and rest, dear lady.
