Re: CCT
Thank you for your comment. I suppose some people do write to please themselves. I had thought people wrote for much the same reasons as people paint, sculpt, dance or engage in any other type of art; because they feel a need to express something within. Whether or not that "something" pleases others - well, you are correct, it's an entirely different ball game and one not easy to learn.

Creative writing and reading have seen a boost.
Book sales are through the roof due to people staying indoors through the pandemic. Poetry has been a part of that jump for sure. People are discovering and reconnecting with their creative juices.

I suppose one writes poetry firstly because it pleases oneself. It is kind of magical when one writes a first poem. Of course as you say, it may be to please one's self.
The secret is pleasing others which is a different ball game.

Sea Gypsi, I have also been writing for as long as I can remember. I think we are like-minded souls. I love the fact that your Mom read children's poetry to you! That is such a wonderful gift to give to a child. She spent time with you and introduced you to poetry. I would say that is love in its purest form. Some people would not see it like that but that's exactly the way I see it.

Re: Re: Re: Goldiec
Thank you for asking. Just about always. My mom read children’s poetry to me since I was toddler. She could also recite long poems from memory and often did so. I’d read her poety books as a small child and “composed” my first set of lyrics at about 8 or 9 years of age. I’ve written rhyming poetry since my early 20s but decided I preferred free-verse in my 30s and have written mostly that since then. I would often compose in my car on my lunch hour. I also enjoy writing narratives.

Pat - She is fabulous - a gifted and talented poet and reader.
A Harvard grad, raised by a single mom who was a teacher, she is young and sees the world through eyes that shine with hope, as should we all. Time‘s Reflection in the Mirror of Life alters us a bit but hopefully - ...”as we grieved, we grew,“ and never should we stop growing. Thank you.

The young poet laureate who read her -- I should say performed her
poem at the presidential inauguration a week or so ago has become a sensation. Her reading was so polished and professional you'd think she'd been performing for a decade. It just may be the time for poets - a season for you to shine.
