Re: Sea_Gypsy
As I said this is not about Vera Lynn. The lovely song is on 'You Tube.'
Well conkers was what kids called Horse Chestnuts. I don't know if you know the game . We Kids used to thread a conker on string and in turn try to break the dangling conker , if one could break the conker you had a oner and so on,the winning conker would take on the the losers count. So a kid might shout I've got a 70er.
Now.he was not going to take on a low number conker he wanted to bash another high one to gain more credits. I have seen kids boast, 'This is a hundred and twenty one.
Some kids cheated and tried to bake the conker in the oven or even fill it with something like cement. All were.wary of those tricks. I have not seen any children
playing this old game. It was slightly dangerous in the playground as bit of conker could whizz past at any time, that was in the season. A lot of Horse Chestnut trees
died a few years ago and some still do not look very healthy. Some of the old folks carried one In a pocket as a prevention against rheumatics, I do not think it made any difference.

Re: Sassyass
This was not about our Vera Lynn . I wish someone could sing a song as wonderful as The White Cliffs of Dover. I think it was composed in USA. I must listen to it on 'You Tube.'

Nicely done, working in the White Cliffs of Dover to confirm the
memories, a nice respectable tribute to a woman of her age.
