Re: I sometimes see coyotes in the river bottom lands, the open fields

Yes, it's fun to watch his face as he listens to the wild versions of him ring through the night. His face contorts as his ears listen to the 'song.' He knows that he 'belongs' to a pack, but for now, he takes me as his pack leader with him being the 'muscle' of the pack.

I sometimes see coyotes in the river bottom lands, the open fields

between the stretches of woodlands along the Mississippi and the feeder creeks. The university campus is 2600 acres, much of it in restored natural prairie and wooded hills, so there's a large deer and wild turkey population, too. It's cool to read about your dog still having a genetic memory of his wild ancestors.

Re:

Yes! They tend to 'yip' more at night, but when they get a fresh kill, I've heard them howl when there is enough to share. I can frequently see coyotes with my binoculars, but it is difficult to see them up close. I have a long reaching lens, but nothing is really focused without a tripod, something I can't readily carry in the forest.
