Re: In a way this is "Hemingway" research - it's just the sort of manly sport

Amen. The more I study the personal side of Hemingway, the more intrigued I am about my project. I've spent several days wandering the area around Seney Michigan, about 22 miles from my door, and I know exactly where he got off the train that brought him there. All interesting thoughts.

I've read 'Big Two-Hearted River,' a 14 page short story that was the first of the man's use of the 'iceberg theory' where the words were just the tip of his real meaning. As I wander the area where he spent that week, from his words I can spot his footprints. He was actually on the Fox River, but a friend of his thought that the Two-Hearted River was a more symbolic name so he used that name.

It's detective work, but it's also a labor of love.

he'd have been involved in. Or at least that's my impression of him. May even have been doing the exact kind of thing you're doing, reporting the play-by-play using current technology. Have fun!
