It can be difficult to voluntarily hand over power one is used to keeping, even though they've wielded it poorly and to their own disadvantage. It isn't about thinking about it, so much as getting used to a very uncomfortable idea. Simply agreeing makes her the child in the room. I suspect it is her attempt to retain some dignity in her very undignified position.
