A Small Holder Corbin as the name implies lived on just a few acres of land, usually he was self sufficient apart from a few groceries and household oddments.  Just after the first WW. A scheme was in operation to give folks who applied about 2 to 3 acres and I think a pig was included. Usually these units formed a village or were near to other small villages. I don't know if it applied only to this district, As a rule there was quite a bit of rivalry as you can imagine.  Of course most have now been sold of as development areas. Of course it is a job to realize how poor folk were .

Can I show my ignorance here and ask what is the significance of "smallholder"?

(Be kind)

We often learn a lot about the people who made a major first impression on us in love as time goes on.
