up to the son running away, i have to admit it sounded like my marriage, he gave up and thank god he did.  i never thought of running away, i kept thinking if i was strong enough i could change my husband by example.  my children never ran away. only now do i fantasize about running away from my children.

TAPS

Intersting and sad as well. Here in India, it's rare and if one does leave he or she leaves forever.

Re:

Not everyone mellows, CCT ... my ex is just as controlling and manipulative as he ever was.  It's taken a very long time, but my daughter now understands and has stopped being mad at me for leaving.

I can't help but imagine the distress Taps.. thank goodness he came home.  The hardest thing I have ever done was to leave my 21-year old 'baby' with his father in Australia when I couldn't bear it any more and came home to England. Thankfully my son has grown into an amazing young man, and I am spending 6 days with him in Boston, very soon. My love to you and your family xx

Yes I guess we sometimes cannot understand . You were all different then folk tend to mellow. I would guess you needed affection and it just was not going to happen.

Taps I think the most successful marriages are when one partner likes to dominate and the other does not mind. It does not happen too often. It was good to accept  Ribcage back into the fold.

Goodness....What an exceptionally frank story.  Yes things were different then...nobody talked about how a straight jacket was part of the "dress code"

Sometimes it seems your ex and mine might have been related.

But in light of the children who came from it, in the long run worth it.

Wow! What a story! How stressful for you as a mother that must have been. Yes, in those days women toughed it out. Except for my one grandmother... Thank you. I've always enjoyed your posts.
