Taking away a license or telling an aging relative to stop driving is very tough on spouses and children. Your entry has inspired me to write one about when my father took away my paternal grandmother's car.

Yes you have an understanding Doctor. I suppose really it would be better if everyone had to finish at a certain age and then get a free taxi for life. Yes carry on dear you are doing the best you can, once Wiley gets used to you driving he will probably sit back and relax.

I've sold my car. However, I maintain my driver'slicense for I.D.and I can drive if ever. It's sentimental because my mother obtained and paid for mine before she became sick. She passed away and would have been 100 next month.

I kinda think the feeling you got when you first got your licence, the
sense of freedom and the recognition by the powers that be that you're grownup and responsible never really goes away, and losing the license is a big deal. So many of the well-seasoned (not old) folks who come to The Center worry a lot about losing that privilege... Seems to me older drivers who are paying attention are much less a hazard on the road than those eejits who are texting or talking on cell phones as they go. Good on your doc. to keep Wiley in the driver's seat...

I wish him the best on the test, and I'm happy the doctor is working with you and him on that. It is tiring to be the one driving, yet it's good to know one can do so. Remember to take care of you, also.

P.S. I miss having my car sitting here, ready and waiting for my beck & call. I may still get me a car, but it is so unnecessary--just pride.

I'm not far behind. I got rid of my car, but my driver's license is good until August of 2019 which will be before you know it.

kabu, i think that is the hardest thing to give up, our license to drive. but i feel you are going about it the right way, you drive and soon he will realize he still goes where he wants and needs to go, so it doesn't matter who is driving. that is one reason i need to move to a very small town, so that when i need to give up my license i can get me a golf cart and go to the store.

Are you saying you don't have a license?
