My brother is big into genealogy....He's traced the family back to the 1600's in Germany. Down here in Kentucky almost everyone has some native American in them...(unlike some people from Massachusetts)

A very interesting family history that you have shared with us. Many farmers are going through a lot of plights with their land nowadays. I think something like 2% of the United States population are farmers these days.

I'm a fan of the genealogy programs on PBS, where Henry Louis Gates
traces the lineage of three celebrities back to the "old" country, using ancient records and Ancestry.Com, as well as DNA to find origins. There's another series called "Who Do You Think You Are?" that is also fascinating. Most people don't know their family's history as you do - it's amazing. Great to feel connected to the human family.

If only they could have held on to the land. Although it has been the same all over. No one knew how things would change, possibly quickly because of wars. Of course here land has never been available so easily. Although one can always be wise after the event.
