Re: RP.
Well RP women used to make this roll of soft pastry and half was filled with bacon the other half jam. A roly poly pudding It was usually boiled in a cloth and saved fuel and washing plates. One lady told me that when a child of a large family they could not have meat everyday but her mother used to make as Roly with jam one end and currants the other. 'Now!.' She would say which do you want, you can't have jam and currants.

Re: Taps
During the war there was a song about Spam. We were pretty sick of it I think it was imported as a better method than bringing meat in. I remember as a boy listening to the news and feeling sad as one heard how many Merchant ships had been sunk bringing food to Britain.

Now and then Ribcage likes a can of Spam in remembrance of his US Navy days, or a package of Ramen noodles made with hot coffee because that was the only liquid they had up on the bridge and in the middle of the night he was not inclined to go down 15 decks to get something to eat in the mess.
