Kabu

A geriatric specialist is a good choice, I think. And it's tough on poor Wiley, dear, but he has you to ease his life and help him be in the best shape he can be. Hugs, S. Sister.

I remember it being very tough when my paternal grandmother had to give up all driving. She had a strong personality, which it made it difficult on my father...I am hoping that Wiley's health soon takes a turn for the better.

Wresting the keys from my Dad would have been a battle, one that should have been joined some time before his passing, but no one had the nerve.

Yes well it is one of those things. although when one weighs it up. I don't think I will buy a new car. I can get groceries delivered or just phone for a taxi. We will see. Of course a bit of a girl like you its different. It seems one has to fight for survival in the medical field.  At least our Wiley has got a good Sergeant major  .

Driving is a mixed bag, I think, for most of us...

Gives independence but can be so stressful sometimes, especially when a person's health and energies aren't the best. Good news about the specialist. Wiley Friend is blessed to have his Kabu! Love and hugs sent to you both and to deep in thought Mr. G....

Re: I've seen so many of the friends at The Center here get depressed

I find myself worrying about the day I can't drive anymore and have to depend on others for everything.  It is the way of life and we all have to deal with how we feel about it.

As much as I hate going to the doctor (any doctor), today was the day and I couldn't get out of it.  But, it was really enjoyable this time.  I was his last patient of the day and he wasn't in any hurry.  We talked and laughed and he listened to all of my complaints, took care of my medicine changes, ordered needed labs, and was totally pleasant.   He was my mom & dads, doctor, doctor to two of my sisters, and a doctor that I worked with during my nursing career.  That was so long ago that now he reminds me of Papa Geppetto keeping Pinocchio in working order.

I've seen so many of the friends at The Center here get depressed

when the doctor takes away their driving privileges. We get so used to having our freedom to come and go, it's a real shock to have to depend on others to get us where we want to do - extra planning and frustration, too, if the ride isn't available when we are. I'm crossing my fingers this new person will find a happy medium for your dear Wiley's meds.
