Agreed, people change and grow in different directions.

I have heard that whatever one gives up for the sake of a relationship is what will eventually destroy the relationship.

Well the dentist did say what ever is the colour of your tongue.I had to explain it was a one of those tablets that make one smell like no smell at all.

Early romance, I think, is about baby-making mostly, that and validating oneself through the approval of another, and at its best, with finding someone with whom to create a lifetime. Beyond such urges and needs it seems to me it is more about companionship and sharing with someone one can agree with mostly.

Your second poem reminds me of our New Jersey poet Stephen Crane. I studied him in college.
