I would have been concerned as well with a never ending ride like that...Every year, some Loyola students study in Bangkok. They were there when that 2006 coup happened. Thankfully, it was not a violent coup.

I married my Thai wife in 1984, and so now I learn that you were there in 1985. My first trip to Bangkok was 1986, I think. So I know of what you are writing here. I had the advantage of having a Thai wife to translate and guide, so my trip was much safer and less worrisome. But we have had some alarming episodes, including a taxi driver who worried us so, we demanded that he stop RIGHT NOW, and we got out and found another taxi. He had a large knife displayed on the front seat, and he was taking us off-course from where we wanted to go. Probably trying to deliver us to some thugs to rob us. Good thing we got out of that car!
