A romantic disturbing sound, I suppose most have heard it recorded, but I am sure you shivered with excitement when it assailed your territory. Warning Never go outside alone and try to answer the call.

I myself have never heard a wolf howling. We do not have any in Maryland.

It's an amazing sound, isn't it? Even down this way we can sometimes hear it, though ours are probably coywolves, the hybrids our Durham region is known for. Quite different from the 'roos and dingos you're used to, eh?

For me it was the sound of owls on the night air--so peaceful. But at midnight I drifted off to sleep and at 3:00 a.m. I woke to the most awful noise. Two big owls were having a go at it right in our front yard. I didn't even know that owls fight with each other so today I googled that and found that they do if they both want the same prey.

Ah, the distant call of the wolf. Beautiful, and hauntingly so. Much different from the coyotes I hear, and then I get sad to think of their kill, though it is necessary for them. Sometimes I head the pain of the kill, and hold my breath. The butterflies aren't here yet. Only one have I seen. It's still cold to me here. You enjoy such a lovely day, dear S. Sister.
