I'm not too surprized...
that college baseball players are bonafide students. Colleges get their big bucks from football and basketball, so there's not as much pressure to recruit baseball players who don't belong in college.

I tend to agree...

With one exception:  I used to be close friends with many members of the University of Hawaii's baseball team.  I have to say that those guys (granted this was all about 10 years ago) did put academics first.  They went to classes more often than I did.  They got excellent grades.

However, they were the exceptions.

All the other athletes I've known have been in school because of the scholarship.  Hell, I knew one basketball player who couldn't even write a complete sentence to save his life!

And I agree 100% with your idea of how to determine which schools get funded.
