Anyway, Happy Halloween

Even though the tradition (at least nowadays) is just a money making machine, I'll wish you that anyway, dear Kabu.

Actually, here in Denmark they "adopted" Halloween as well, but of course it seems like a money machine, or maybe it's just another try to look more and more like the americans with days/eves like Halloween and St. Valentine.

I don't really do much about those traditions. Afterall, I celebrate Halloween and St. Valentine's Day all the year, while writing.

But if somebody made a "Tom Ugly's Day", perhaps it would make a difference.

I am not much into Halloween either. The kids are cute, but I myself do not dress up and watch tons of horror movies.

The tricks came first...

then came the rapping on doors to beg candy to not egg the house, or soap the windows or t-p the yard... In other words, an extortion scheme.

60 years ago in California, the tradition was Trick and Treat: the kids had to perform a cute trick to earn the candy. When I went out the first time at age 5, I think it was, I sang lispingly, "Santa Claus Is Coming To Town."

I used to love halloween - the trick 'r treats kept us kids in sweets

all the way to Christmas. And Mom was genius at making costumes out of whatever, old battered felt hats from the thrift store, masks and a flashlight and off we went.

I always loved Halloween.  I loved to always figure out my costume for the year.  Running and racing to see who gets to the house first.  I remember one Halloween it rained ... it was a downpour!  There was no trick or treating that year.  I was so sad because I was going to be Bugs Bunny!

Kabu

I get it and around here they try to keep it safe and traditional. As a kid I was always a, you guessed it, Gypsy! LOL. As a teen kids cruised around and some egged cars driving in the streets. I never wanted my car hit because it hurt the paint. Many in this area dress up in costume while they walk their children in costume. Very cute picture you posted.

Kabu

I 'get' it, but I don't care much for its current iteration...

Well I did see a warning for shop keeper to watch for kids buying eggs and flour.

It seems there is an element of vandalism creeping into this. In some places if a gift is not received or appreciated ones house gets pelted. Not nice for old folk obviously and it makes it all into a commercial enterprise. I suppose it is more fun than carol singing which appears to be dying out. Girls grow up before ones eyes.

Really cool picture, Dear Kabu!

I've always had a bit of wanting to be spooked by supernatural things and I guess a darker edge, so I've written spooky poems and stories (and not just for Halloween..:) Halloween for me as a kid meant the princess or fairy costumes, chosen by my Mom. I grew out of those quick, lol. As an adult, I used to participate fully in Halloween. Doing my kids's costumes and make-up at home, taking them to parties and trick or treating and involvement in a few harmless tricks sometimes. On week-ends before the big night, there would be contests at local bars and pubs for the grown ups and I won a few of those in my day; fun!
