I once wanted to be a farmer, but having seen how commercialised it has become and the pittance a small farmer earns, I think I am better off as a candle maker. I have however just taken a ride in your memory to look at your old farm with sadness.

Wow, Yes I suppose people put in a good hard days work and were really happy with the yield. They reaped what they sowed. These days its all about the machines and how fast the yield is produced mostly for the gain in profits.

The good ole' days of the yore are gone. The soil was proportionate to the toil, and the yield, a delight to celebrate. 21st century seems, holds no such pleasure.

Thanks for sharing: some losses, some gains: keep an even keel. I miss the

old days of farming. But it sure was messy ... built character & responsibility. I alos read about Israel keeping the sabbath-rest for the land every 7 years (Fallow times; cross planting, etc. and fewer GM seeds). Jesus returns soon; let's go to Zion! shalom, shalom and BLESSiNGS dear Kabu and Wiley!

Sounds like your parents were very wise. The picture reminds me of The Thorn Birds, for some reason. Thank you for sharing it with everybody!

I remember learning in school about a decade and a half ago that only about 2% of the American population are farmers. To think, decades ago, a statistic like that would have meant the end of a society...Reading about your life on the farm sounds similiar to what the few farmers in America have.
