Kabu

I read it all and like some aspects of this story, but for what it's worth I completely agree with Pat - we shouldn't anthropomorphize animals...

I think humans are their worst enemies - not many are like you Kabu, consciencious about the rights of animals to co-habitate with a common surrounding together with humans. There is still a long way to go before people become humans - sigh

Kabu

I like the idea of children reading this story. Today's children have a social awareness which includes ecological, environmental, and even political ideologies and concerns at a much deeper level than previous generations. Today was Coastal Clean-Up Day here, and school children and others volunteered this morning to clean up the beaches. Even young elementary school children and of course middle school children share a concern for the aspects of caring for their Mother Earth and its creatures. Therefore, I think if Bruno's story was presented as one based upon truth, it would give areas of discussion to be used as an educational tool. I have already seen several points that could be made in a classroom based upon the posts you have written. Just a thought. As to age level appropriateness, and title, I don't know. When Bruno Met Bambi...but I digress... LOL! Another story...

And about the cages, horrid. Once had a neighbor behind us who kept two sweet Doodles in cages like that in her house! It wasn't against the law, they were fed and watered, and they were allowed out three times a day, but I loathed seeing her own those dogs. Rrrhhh!

People always seem to like anything about bears, both children and adults alike.  They can be as horrible, scarey, tense, precious as you wish and people will want to read them or see the movies.  No help on name.  It's got to be something quite different though as you want to differentiate it from all the other bear stories.

I thought all the others had very good suggestions. I haven't a clue. I am not a writer, just one who loves to try on here.

I think you would have to write the full version and then decide, is little bear going to grow up with a grudge , or be captured, or become a tourist attraction. Only you know at the moment.

Seems to me the toughest part of writing an animal character is to keep from giving them human thoughts, emotions, etc. They don’t have an awareness of virtue or sin, evil or good – there’s just the issue of finding food and survival. They breed according to nature’s mandates, some mate for life, others do not – it’s not romance. We do tend to personify them.

Yes, continue; for children - if it helps teach just one youngster empathy for animals, it will have served its purpose, and adults will read it anyway; I'm sure you'll come up with a great title; yes - a human can be so caring and yet some so savage - it's mind-boggling.
