Yes, it sounds like the homeowner had the crooks in his sights, with a steady rest, when they stepped into the house. From a practical moral viewpoint, it is a shame that he did not shoot them then, and eliminate two vicious hardened predators from the world. But from a legal standpoint, he saved himself the intense scrutiny of the law, when a life is taken, which might not go in favor of the good guy. Not ro mention the prolonged disruption of his life, even if he was declared to be justified.
