I don't think I need to tell you what I think of dogs, and of people who abuse them...

Beautifully written. Any reader would be filled with sumpathy for the poor dogs, though they are made to do cruel things for human sports. Humans, at times, can be worse than animals.

From 1989, Kansas City had greyhound racing at The Woodlands with some of the same problems of which you speak. Then around 2000 they changed it to horse racing and in 2008 it gave in to casino gambling. I never observed either greyhound racing or horse racing first hand. Saw it on our local news now and then.

That seems to be an issue that would happen if horse racing was banned with what to do with all of the horses.
My college's mascot just so happens to be the greyhound.

And I forgot to say, I think the dog racing with those sweet dogs is abominable, despicable, and deplorable!

Oh, my God...why???? Why are there so many idiots allowed to own and torture these beautiful, loving animals, and I cannot own one, no matter how much I want to???? I could never, ever do that to any dog. Or any other animal!!!!!
Here in this country, we are slowing ending the cruelty toward pit bulls, rot wilers and dobermans, but they are still seen as evil. We do very little to punish those who force them to fight and perform for money...a small jail sentence if one is lucky. Pathetic! Outrageous! Disgusting!
Please forgive me...I have to go away and sob.

Kabu,
I am so sorry about all this cruelty I did not know it was here as well until reading these comments. I know people who have them as pets. They are lovely dogs to own.

I know people who do Greyhound rescue - it's a "sport" that had fans
here in the USA as well. The mass slaughter does seem like a miserable and selfish way to handle the situation. Sometimes humans aren't very humane.

Au contraire, Kabu...
While the slaughter is reprehensible, that the racing has been banned shows that humanity is on the up-swing, and because of that, the cruelty of the heartless and inhumane is much more likely to be called to account.

Well it could have been planned better I suppose. Perhaps a subsidy to help the adoption of the dogs or to house them in animal welfare homes. Far better perhaps to run these
businesses down slowly, but those who make the laws are not always the best judge of the consequences. At least they were not shipped for meat hopefully.

Dear Kabu, you are living proof, by this post alone, that the human race has NOT lost its way! Yes, there are people who have lost their way; this has always been the case. But there are so many more folks who wish for good and want to do the right thing, to elevate humankind to a higher level. And you are certainly one of those good, kind souls.
