It seems like elections are really tense everywhere these days. I wonder if it is a new trend overall or if things will settle down after this one.

We had big textile & clothing mfg here in the U.S. too, until the
NAFTA agreement made it feasible for all the companies here to relocate the mills and sweatshops to Asia. I can remember when we first started getting things with "made in Taiwan" labels, and lots of people here (union members especially) rallying against all the foreign made items. Buy U.S., was the watchword. Here, too, we're wishing for the good factory jobs to return, but the WTO & other groups have pretty much gutted the manufacturing unions. Only small mom & pop enterprises with limited markets seem to start up any more. I guess I'm a curmudgeon, because I liked it better before everyone had a cell phone with them 24-7, and people actually talked to one another at mealtime.
