Boy now adays everyone commute to work, and when I am asssigned to go down the road 10 miles I have a tissy fit since my usual location is less than 2 miles away.

I commute at least 50 minutes one way everyday. Like Kabu, it is MY time. I enjoy it as you do.

Perhaps it would feel different if every where you went cars were waiting to join the morning rush hour and once one lets one out the others scramble to follow. Enjoy your freedom while you can. Although I expect you are a good careful driver. I'll bet on that.

i think I understand you dear FSI. When I was working, the time in the car was my time. Music and thoughts as I drove...my time.

It's what one is used to. For me it's rarely a matter of distance, but one of traffic density. If traffic isn't too heavy, distance is no big deal...
