CCT
I think I'd pass on an invitation to that dinner, LOL...But how does one try to drink a Guinness? It sounds like 'trying to walk', something that's 'automatic' after one has reached the age of a year and a half, roughly...

Re:
Yes better to avoid eye contact Rpresta, but you might be surprised to learn that men rarely refuse a bunch of flowers for the wife. I have noticed when I put free ones out if men notice them they will participate.

Re: Ciel
I expect so Ciel, it could be that they just want to speak to someone, because nearly everyone is a stranger these days.

Flowers may represents gentleness and kindness unconsciously to people. Then again, some people may just be chatty!

I would guess that generally, women approve of flowers, and since you are nurturing the pretty things--flowers, that is--you win some approval by default and are seen as nice enough to talk to.

Would they stop and chat if it wasn't a nice day? Maybe it's just the weather... I'm sure you're not at all threatening, CCT.

You have so much in this post. Some of it reminds me of when I was a child and how I loved my Dad's gardens and my mom's cooking. I really, really, did not like us being invited to friends or neighbors for meals because in comparison to my mom's cooking, it was definitely inedible.

You do a good job of embroidering. Almost makes me want to try a Guinness. I've never had one.

To sip a Guinness in the shade of a tree
on a drowsy summer afternoon
to the hum of a bee
and a wee pause as a flower is found
and then of course the sound
commences to be.
As the search for sweetness resumes
on a drowsy summer afternoon.
Just in case you had no inspiration, I tried to embroider with your thread...
