Machines do make things super convenient. At my house, the clothes pin is still up, although I have always used a dryer.

Wow, those were busy days, lol..
My Mom has reminisced about the old wringer style washers and I used to love hanging clothes outside in the fresh air and sunshine; can't forget the heavenly scent of clothes dried au naturel..

Well it is confessional wash time , I try to keep two separate piles , You see Kabu I don't mess around ironing clothes . At the top of the stairs I have a rack, I bung the clothes in the machine and when they are washed I just hang them on the rack . As I wash most days the previous lot is then ready to go into the airing cupboard as the next lot is ready to begin drying. If one leaves shirts buttoned up on a hanger they do not need ironing. If you require any more tips please do not hesitate to ask.

Wonderful post. When I first married and then had babies, I didn't have it quite that bad for getting the clothes clean, but it wasn't real easy either. I had a wringer washing machine and a couple of roller tubs for rinsing, and hung things out on the line to dry. By the time I had four little ones, keeping things clean for the six of us was pretty time consuming. We made it a priorty to get a more up-to-date washer and a dryer. It saved a lot of time. Sorting the clean clothes was another matter. LOL

I don't exactly love doing laundry, but I sorta like it! Do laundry almost every day. If I could just catch up... These water-saving washers take so long to wash a load. I remember wringer-washers; got my arm stuck in one of the wringers once, all the way up to the shoulder, and the thing just kept rolling - I thought possibly I would roll through, thinking "would will happen to my head?" I was not yet four.

It wasn't that backbreaking by the time I had young 'uns, I had a
washer and a dryer by the time they came along, but I remember how fresh everything smelled, the sheets and pillow-cases, after drying in the sunshine on the clothesline when I was in school and helped Mama. We had a big copper boiler that fit on the big wood cook stove, and we dipped that hot water into the washer using a 3-quart pan - also heated the bath water for Saturday night in the galvanized tub that way...
