I wondered why this dug into me so - until I read Naut's comment. When I was a child, our neighbors had an only child, a son much older than my sibs and myself, of whom they were very proud. He went off to a prestigious East Coast college, and committed suicide. We were the children who played outside, oblivious to their pain.
