I remember a time when nearly all guys were backyard mechanics; it was standard behavior in my area for men to be able to do most routine work on their own cars, only having to put them in the shop for something serious...and that only after having had a friend or two come over to try the two heads are better than one approach. Their knowledge of car engines led to about any other appliance I guess. I only remember one mechanic ever having been in our home when I was growing up. I, therefore, grew up assuming all men were like that ......HA! The horror stories I could tell on the road to enlightenment about that fable!! Of course, it lines up with the one about all girls leaving home able to cook like Betty Crocker! LOL!
